Currently when you navigate to any existing pay period or even a defined date range under "Time Cards", at the top of the column/page you are given a search box to locate/jump to a specific employee inside that date range. See attached partial screen shot.
Please consider an alternative search - being able to search for a specific employee and the results being any/all/selective pay periods for that given employee.
This eliminates having to look first at Employee Setup, then filter to include Inactive population, review their date of hire/date of term and then go back to the "Time Cards" and search for those PP's or period of time you are wanting to review.
